Serge's Boat Work Day

Serge finished all the varnishing for Elise - inside and outside - and documented the whole thing! We used some indoors/outdoors regular varnish inside (it's cheaper than special marine one and it will hold just as fine as it won't be exposed too directly to UV. We used special marine varnish for the outside which is really exposed to the elements. The bow area - when Elise is in cruising mode and we have more than just 2 people that will need to sleep over on the boat, we cover this area with cushions. During regular races, this area remains clear of everything (the battery compartment is on the right though) - on long distance offshore races, we may put some sails in there, usually spinnakers and light storm sails. We also store garbage in there (it is lighter than regular food) until the space under the beds open up in which case we can migrate it over there and keep some weight in the back. The is the port quarterberth - when sailing to Hawaii, this is full of sails and bags as we tend to sleep on the starboard quarterberth. In the back, you can see the autopilot, 'Nick' and my new contraption for the boat hook so it's out of the way :) Starboard quarterberth. On the Bay, we keep the sails there when they are not being used - this means usually one head sail as we carry only two most of the time. We keep spinnakers near the center, by the 'head' Navigation area cleared up and getting ready for some varnishing. The navigation area - . On the port side, we hang out lines - when we go for one day, there isn't much there - when we go for multiple days, we may have spare halyards and spare sheets hanging off the torpedo tube. The little blue pocket is where we keep the most helpful: the bottle opener and the corkscrew The galley And the Ultimate Yachtshot iPad :) Nav table area Outside port Outside starboard The head :) The galley and first aid area. We have some munchies for races and we keep some glasses for the wine... The iPad does not belong to Elise :) it is Ultimate Yachtshots! Photos: Ultimate Yachshots
