Nathan Overboard

In the last race, our port lifeline broke so we replaced it with spectra on the following day as shown below.

Nathan fell overboard but managed to hang onto the lifeline and the rest of the crew brought him back on board.

The entire time Nat didn't realize any of this had happened.

From the driver's perspective, this is what happened and I will wait for someone else on the team to give their perspective:

  1. Lifeline snaps and driver nearly falls backward (leaning on the lifeline)
  2. Driver hears 'shit' from the crew, thinking 'yeah, crap that the lifeline broke'
  3. Driver stabilizes herself and keeps driving
  4. Driver sees trim 2 looking back and suggests to use spinnaker sheet (it was the final upwind) to replace the lifeline until we get to port
  5. Trim 2 does that.
  6. Trim 1 turns around and says to driver 'you can go now, he is back on board'
  7. Driver thinking 'wait, we had someone overboard??'
