Nathan and I did a bit of work on the boat recently. Here are a few other items that we crossed on our list:
- Switch for batteries, so we can easily switch everything OFF, to battery 1 only, 2 only or 1&2 without having to carry over a huge pile of colorful cables, or truck a heavy piece of chemical machinery from one side of the boat to the other running the risk of tipping over the toilet on the way. Nathan drilled the hole for it, I placed the interrupter and we messed around with a bottle cap to isolate the various metal ends...NatGyver I tell ya! We have only one battery connected right now, so I guess that the switch goes from 1 to...ahem...1.
- Drilled holes into a closed plastic battery box (not quite sure why they even sell those) so we can strap the battery firmly down. Last thing you want if you capsize is have a battery fly across and hit you in the face!
- Nice looking switch boxes :) I re-routed some of the wires, put the tricolor and the heavy auto-pilot switch into a project box with some really innovate looking drilled holes and screwed back everything onto the bottom of our 'work' area of the nav table. All the cables that were a little too long are now nicely held by some pretty stylish black electrical tape. Everything is now operated with a nice switch! (well, sometimes too...)
- Nathan found a first aid kit that we can borrow with current meds.
- I tidied the nav table and it now looks beautiful inside too...
- I fitted a LED-powered flexible nav light, which you can move around to better see the charts to the right of the nav table. It's got some sort of flexible stem.
- Nathan tried the SSB (on deck) and it worked!!! (receiving only) - this is a pretty crucial piece of equipment
- I bought a cordless dust buster and cleaned up after all this beautiful work :)
Getting there, slowly getting there...
