2nd Half Opener

I am super late posting updates to this blog.

Elise participated in the 2nd half opener which was fun

Leaving the harbor was interesting as a barge and a dredger had to move out of the way to leave enough space for us to pull through.

Despite being seriously underweight during the upwind and despite a bad first third of the upwind, we had a good first leg and we rounded Point Bonita in second place. We managed to hold onto this position back to the Golden Gate bridge but for reasons I cannot explain we nearly lost ground right afterwards. I say I cannot explain it because on the downwind we were much lighter than everyone else.

At the bridge, everything was really awesome - 30 knots of wind and 14.5 knots of boat speed. Elise was flying. I had so missed this kind of sensations.

You can see San Francisco summer fog in the background - the problem with the high winds near the gate is that after I got bored...it became too light. We also lost the race by staying close to the city front. The strategy was sound though as there was much heavier current in the middle and all the way to the Bay Bridge it was the case but then two things happen. 1) the hole by Yerba Buena island disappeared and 2) we had much more distance to cover by taking this flier.

Having moved to the cruising division we enjoyed the last warm and sunny leg.

And after we arrived in Alameda, we took out the blender, got some ice and made margaritas

Serge helped take the boat out! Thank you

We finished the evening at a German restaurant.
