Boat Work Days

Serge and I spent the best of the last two days working on Elise...I will post some photos soon. Roughly, here is what we did...
  • Scrub the deck with soap and fresh water
  • Take everything out of the boat, rinse it and let it dry
  • Grease the hanks of the jib and the genoa
  • Unscrew all the connections on bus bars, sand all the connection points and screw everything back on
  • Clean up and fix the connection box (including some wire cutting, stripping, change of connectors, etc...)
  • Remove the SSB tuner (that was screwed to resined-in wooden blocks at the back of the boat
  • Remove the installation for the water bladders (from Pac Cup)
  • Hose off everything inside and outside the boat
  • Remove all mildew (including way back...) and apply mildew block
  • Fix cabin light connections that were broken
  • Grease all connections with electrical grease and apply battery cleaning chemical to battery terminals
  • Remove everything from the last ocean race so the boat is light again (including large solar panel, sails, spare lines, spare pole, etc...) and rinse/clean everything off
  • Screw on mic holder for the VHF mic
  • Clean up electrical lines so they are nicely out of the way
  • Set up an elegant and fast solution to secure the small toolbox (for short races)
  • Install hooks for the boat hook so it is out of the way (there were already hooks for the oar)
  • Rinse all sails and lines and let them dry
  • Sand and clean everything that looked a little rusty
  • Remove all excess food and drinks, tools and spare parts
  • Fix elegant storage and lighting solutions
  • Apply resin in areas where wood looked a little ready to rot away inside the boat
  • Clean up the bilge (with the 'oil sucking' towels)
  • Seal connection holes/box at the base of the mast (was dripping like mad during Coastal Cup) and test with heavy hose stream
  • Dry up boat with towels
  • Check all batteries (and just put a few on the boat), discard the corroded ones and keep the other one
  • Fixed a few chips in the gelcoat after Coastal Cup
  • Mark limit on the backstay control at the main sheet post (the do not release limit, not the max out limit)
Elise looks really nice now!!! Spotless!!! Thank you Serge for all your help!!

Remains to be done over the next couple of days
  • Buy more boat soap
  • Find solution to hook the middle-size solar panel to the magic box connector at the stern so we don't have to mess around with the battery every time we want to top it up AND protect the battery from overcharging thanks to the charge controller
  • Clean up deck (Restore Color type chemical + other cosmetic deck treatment)
  • Connect up the stereo and test it
  • See if the MOB pole can get fixed (maybe by doing some extra drilling and shortening it by a couple of inches)
  • Apply first coat of varnish to inside wood
  • Buy new hot knife since the current one is kaput and charge it up with gas
Remains to be done over the next week or so
  • Fix spinnaker (the one that got a small tear during Coastal Cup)
  • Saw off excess wood for compass lighting so we can put the cover back on
  • Cover end of jib cars so lines don't get caught in them
  • Change oil of port magnetic compass
  • Fix lighting of port magnetic compass
  • Re-bed port shroud chain plate
  • Switch over circuit breakers for spare autopilot and SSB to the new instrument panel so there is no more loose switches
  • Apply second coat of varnish to inside wood
  • Apply two coats of varnish to outside wood where needed
