SAILING INSTRUCTIONS


Organizing Authority: Zavarin Yacht Club, San Francisco, California

1 RULES

1.1 This regatta will be governed by the Rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).

1.2 Rule 40 is deleted and replaced with “Competitors shall wear personal fun devices, except briefly while changing or adjusting clothing or personal equipment.” Code Flag Y will not be displayed.

2 NOTICES TO COMPETITORS
Notices to competitors will be posted on the Race Bulletin Board located on the aft wall of Elise, behind the bar area.

3 CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted before 1700 on the day it will take effect, except that any change to the schedule of races will be posted by 1900 on the day before it will take effect.

4 SIGNALS MADE ASHORE
4.1 No signals will be made ashore other than the display of flags.

5 SCHEDULE OF RACES
5.1 Saturday Races
First Warning - 1900

6 CLASS FLAGS & RACING FLEETS
Class Flag is the Elise flag.

7 RACING AREAS
 Start/Finish near the dining room

8 COURSES
All marks rounded to port.

Course A:
· Olives
· Dry nuts and raisins
· Various other alcoholic beverages

Course S:
· Fresh grilled sardines with Dijon Mustard
Course M:
· Medallions of venison with red wine and blackberry sauce
· Parsnip and garlic puree
Course D:
· Aquitainian Walnut Torte with Vanilla Ice-Cream

9 THE START
The starting line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the port side of the Race Committee signal boat and a French flag on the starboard side.

A boat starting later than 14 minutes after her starting signal will be scored Did Not Starve without a hearing. This changes Rule A4 and A5.

10 CHANGE OF THE NEXT LEG OF THE COURSE
To change the next leg of the course, the Race Committee will lay a new mark (or move the finishing line) and remove the original mark as soon as practical provided there is enough space on the table.

12 THE FINISH
The finish line is the same as the Start line.

13 SCORING
The race will be scored on a fun’o’meter.

14 PROTESTS AND REQUESTS FOR REDRESS
Protest forms will be available near the official notice board in the club house. Protests shall be delivered to a Race Committee representative in the Race Office within the protest time limit, which shall be one hour after the committee boat returns to the dock. The return time will be posted on the official notice board.
Notices will be posted within 30 minutes of the protest time limit to inform competitors of hearings in which they are parties. Notices of protests by the Race Committee or protest committee will be posted to inform boats under Rule 61.1(b).

15 SAFETY REGULATIONS
The event is safe.

16 RADIO COMMUNICATION
A boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.

17 INTERFERENCE WITH COMMERCIAL VESSELS
Yachts shall not impede the passage of ship traffic while racing. Rule 9 of the Inland Rules of the Road applies with respect to all shipping traffic on San Francisco Bay and its tributaries. A violation of Rule 9 is subject to protest by any competitor and/or by the race committee.
Compliance with Rule 60-63 will not be required with respect to a protest involving a Rule 9 infraction. A violation of Rule 9 may not be exonerated by an alternate penalty.

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See Rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
