This race could have been dubbed the 'it is good to read the Sailing Instructions' lesson in a course to learn to race. Basically, we went around the wrong way for a mark and in doing so even put ourselves in a worst position as we had to fight more current? Despite that, we sailed competitively in terms of boat speed and tactics after the original mistake (which happened minutes after the start) was made...
Overall a great two days though. Elise is getting a new crew this season and we are all still learning. Boat speed isn't bad but we still need to get our team work down.
In the warm San Pablo Bay
As usual, we had a massive big banquet once in Vallejo with hand made cocktails and we invited everyone from the boats around us. Vlad and I then spent like an hour walking around Vallejo later that night in search for an ice-cream to end the day on a sweet taste. We had to settle for some crappy one off a gas station?
A tough restricted area near fuel dock because there are tankers.
Diane!
The Vallejo race is usually a well attended event with a sea of boats crammed in the little marina at the other end.
Light air for most of the race. Downwind, sunny and warm.
Upwind, sunny and warm. We did much better the following day as there was no tactical mistake, finishing in the top 5.
Vlad took advantage of the water to cool down after the finish.
And then we opened the traditional bottle of wine...
