Another Boat Cleaning Day

Actually, after 3 full days, this one was only a half day worth of maintenance. Serge and I did most of the work together - and we achieved
  • Burned the end of a few more lines (the ones we had forgotten) so they don't fray
  • Tested the ability for our regular solar panel to use the back terminals (hence the Magic box) to charge up the battery and topped off the battery
  • Drilled a hole through the emergency drawer (that ended up full of water after a leaky shroud plate did its thing) to act as a drain. Coated the hole with epoxy to ensure that the wood will remain protected against the element and not rot away
  • Drilled a hole on the side next to the new instrument panel so we can use it to push wires through. Applied the same epoxy treatment to it
  • Found one more winch cover -one is still missing
  • Sanded the front of the bulkhead, the floorboards and the top of the icechest
  • Varnished the front of the bulkhead, the floorboards and the top of the icechest (Coat 1)
  • Varnished with exterior varnished the cracks/chips in the wood items on deck
  • Washed thoroughly the deck with a non-brushy type soap (removed some blue streaks and loads of stains), applied non-skid tape where the deck paint is starting to show, whitened the deck
  • Taped up the sailing instrument cover so it stays in place again...
  • Re-stock the cable ties
  • Bought a new toolbox and transferred the flares onto the toolbox we had been using as well as the min tools we actually need. The rest went home
  • Bought fuse holder (still need to swap that over) for the autopilot fuse
  • Removed the annoying Taktik holder on the mast since we don't have a taktik anymore
  • Took the boat out of the water
  • Soaped up and brushed the hull - thoroughly cleaned up the bottom and gelcoat all around the boat - rinsed off
Our neighbors were French. They are sailing around the world - with a dog

Removing the SSB tuner and what was holding the water tanks during Pac Cup 2008. Note the mildew in the back...It's gone now...

Deck cleaning job

We didn't put the boat cover on so that there is a bit more ventilation (with the solar fan) while the varnish dries up - and the outside wood varnish needs some sun exposure too. I have to go back and cover up the boat now.
