Boat Work

A little over a week ago, the crew got together to do some boat work and practice tacks, sets, douses and gybes.

Nat and Kevin fixing the boat cover

Spring cleaning for the outside of the boat and inside forward as well as the bilge using bilge cleaner and sponge to dry it out. We also tested anything that was leaking so we have a todo list for the future and we know what we need to seal up. The boat was full of pine needles and other sticky gum that had accummulated over the races.

We serviced all the winches and discovered that one of them had a missing spring. Serge, Elise's caretaker has since taken care of that missing spring

More winch joy

Doing at least half a day of boat work in a given season with your team is great because they get to understand better how the boat works - and it is safer if you go offshore with them. The more people who know how to fix or service basic equipment on a boat, the better. If you diassemble a winch, you understand why you can only put lines around them clockwise...and why it won't work the other way around...
