Motoring up San Pablo Bay in chop and 20+ knot winds. Very wet when there isn't a nice sailing angle - the engine doesn't move nicely in tune with the wave and puffs

Then, for no apparent reason, the engine stopped. We could have continued to sail on upwind (this time, no immediate danger, the lee shore was several miles away :-)) but everyone was wet, cold and tired, so instead we hoisted the sails and sailed downwind back to Vallejo to spend the night there.
We found a dock, tried to contact the harbor office by VHF and phone and couldn't get through to anybody.
